Hip conditions

Hip pain typically presents in the groin, thigh, side of the thigh, Knee or even up to the ankle. Pain behind the hip / thigh / loin is rarely from the hip an often referred from the spine.

The hip joint is also at risk in all age groups. It is important to get a specialist opinion if after sports injuries, if problems persist despite physiotherapy. There is increasing recognition that subtle abnormalities of the shape of the ball and the socket of the hip can lead to damage and possibly arthritis in the long term. The term impingement syndrome is used to describe this condition and needs to be recognised and treated. Hip arthroscopy and correction of these problems can protect the hip from long term damage.
