Hip operations
Hip replacement surgery has come a long way in the last 30 years. The type of hip replacement can be different for different age groups and levels of activity. It is important you have the right type of hip to give you the best long term results.
Established prosthesis (implants) will be used for your surgery (Exeter cemented Hips, Corail stems, Ceramic/poly bearings etc). The recent metal on metal scare has highlighted how important this is and more information can be obtained at www.boa.org.uk/patient information . I have used almost exclusively the successful Birmingham Hip resurfacing which has the best outcomes but there have been a few patients (specially women) who have had complications. It is best discussed at the time of Consultation.
